Every year at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, Victorians pay their respects to those who lost their lives serving their country in war. This year, as we emerge from lockdown, we will treasure this tradition more than ever.

The Shrine of Remembrance plays a pivotal role in commemorating the service and sacrifice of our veterans. The Shrine’s Remembrance Day commemoration, from 10.30am on 11 November 2021, will provide opportunities to attend both in person and online. Fully vaccinated veterans, their guests and members of the public can attend the service in person. No pre-registration for attendees is required, but attendees will be required to check in via QR code registration and show proof of vaccination, through the Service Victoria app or as a hard copy. The Remembrance Day commemorations will also be livestreamed on the Shrine’s website, Facebook and YouTube channels for commemoration from home.

RSL Victoria’s Annual Remembrance Service was held at the Springvale Botanic Cemetery on 7 November. A recorded service was shared online for people to commemorate at home. And RSL Victoria is working with its sub-branches to plan for small, local in-person events on Remembrance Day all across Victoria.

You don’t need to attend a service in person or online to commemorate Remembrance Day. You can simply light a candle or observe a minute of silence.
